چکیده

The decontamination of chemical warfare agents (CWA) using an atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge in air was investigated. Stainless steel samples inoculated with malathion (a surrogate for nerve agent VX) were placed on the cathode, where they were treated by the chemical active species produced in the streamers. An effective decontamination (>99.7 %) was achieved after 10 minutes (P=58 W). The energetic yield of the process depended on the contamination level (between 0.2 and 1 mg/cm), as the energy necessary to a complete destruction increased with the initial concentration of the simulant. Highly reactive oxygen species were shown to have a key role in the degradation mechanism, leading to the formation of an intermediate organophosphorous byproduct, malaoxon.

Wearable Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Fabrics Produced by Knitting Flexible Wire Electrodes for the Decontamination of Chemical Warfare Agents

One of the key reasons for the limited use of atmospheric pressure plasma (APP) is its inability to treat non-flat, three-dimensional (3D) surface structures, such as electronic devices and the human body, because of the rigid electrode structure required. In this study, a new APP system design-wearable APP (WAPP)-that utilizes a knitting technique to assemble flexible co-axial wire electrodes ...

Effect of non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma on MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has received great attention due to its noteworthy ability, and has also been widely studied over few decades in physics, biology and medicine. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the cold atmospheric pressure plasma effects on the proliferation of breast cancer cells. MDA-MB-231 was used for this experiment. MDA-MB-231 cells were cultured in 24-well plate and...

Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma source design and construction using Argon as the working gas for wound healing

In this research, a non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma jet device was constructed for skin wound treatment. For this reason, five mice were treated for five consecutive days for 30 s, in a daily manner. Natural wound healing time was monitored and compared with the treated one in 12 consecutive days. The measurement of voltage, current and power waveforms of the plasma source, the optical ...
